Early life

Chinua was born Albert Chinualumogu Achebe in the Igbo village of Ogidi on November 16, 1930.[7] Isaiah Okafo Achebe and Janet Anaenechi Iloegbunam Achebe stood at a crossroads of traditional culture and Christian influence; this made a significant impact on the children, especially Chinualumogu. After the youngest daughter was born, the family moved to Isaiah Achebe’s ancestral town of Ogidi, in what is now the state of Anambra.[3]

Tom Cruise has become the first celebrity to join the Russian social networking site Vkontakte.

The Rock of Ages star took to his profile page this morning to say hello and promote his presence on the website.

“Hey Guys, We opened up the wall for a bit this morning, (It’s 10:33am PT in L.A.!), cause we wanted to hear from you and interact a bit with you…you guys are awesome! ” Cruise and his team posted earlier today.

Calabar Boat Mishap: Only Two Survivors from 128 on Board

Only two survivors have been found so far after a boat capsized off Nigeria with an estimated 128 people on board, emergency officials said on Wednesday.

“One hundred twenty-eight people were suspected to be aboard the boat, but only nine bodies have been recovered, while there were two survivors so far,” Yushau Shuaib, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, told AFP.

He said the sinking occurred about two or three days ago some 40 miles (60 kilometres) off the coast of the southern city of Calabar, but that there was still some confusion about the origin of the boat.

JNI Condemns Bombing Of Kano Motor Park

The umbrella body of Muslims in the north, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has said that the  Motor park in Kano on Monday may be a ploy to plunge the north and the entire country into crisis beginning.

In a statement reacting to the incident which claimed many lives in Kano,  Secretary General of JNI, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu said the attack on the motor park is worrisome and asked government at all levels to do everything possible to nip such incidences in the bud and bring those responsible to face justice.

The religious body also condemned the killing of a female Divisional Police Officer in Kano while calling for calm and restraint over the unfortunate incidence.

But the book entitled Olusegun Obasanjo: The Presidential Legacy (1999-2007) on the Obasanjo years that promises to raise more dust about men and women of yesteryears has identified two key arrowheads of the Obasanjo reform agenda whose actions and inactions actually paralysed the reform agenda that would have changed Nigeria’s fortune.

Tiwa Savage was born and bred in Lagos, Nigeria. She is a Singer/songwriter signed to Sony USA record label. She graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2007 and has since then been working with music producers in the industry. Tiwa began her music in the UK touring as a background singer for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Sting, George Michael, Kelly Clarkson and Spice Girls. She participated in the X-Factor, reaching the top 24.
